A deductible is an amount that you're responsible for in the event of a loss. This is the amount you must first pay out-of-pocket, and insurance covers the remainder.
This is the most you will pay out of pocket in a plan year. Hopefully you never reach this, but a crummy year with surgeries, significant illnesses or injuries, inpatient hospitalizations, and ongoing treatments can get very expensive. When your payouts reach that OOP maximum amount, the rest of the costs are on the insurance carrier. (Especially if you always stay in-network)
Yes! Aflac pays you the cash, not the doctor. Use it to pay toward that big deductible, or copays, or car payments, or groceries. Whether you have wonderful medical coverage, average insurance, or nothing at all... the benefit money is paid straight to you. If a car accident occurs and the other driver's auto insurance pays all your medical bills... then use the cash from your Aflac policies towards a trip to the beach!
